Civil War Enlistment Records, Substitutions from Harrison County

Overview Records of men enlisted as substitutes and of men exempted from military service for providing a substitute. The records regard men mustered into the Union Army in Harrison County, West Virginia. Most of the records are written on official stationery and a few are handwritten. Records include dates of enlistment, names and physical descriptions of substitutes, names of exempted men, and signatures of a Provost Marshal or other officer.

Davis Grubb, The Night of the Hunter (Annotated Copy)

Overview The Night of the Hunter by Davis Grubb, an autographed copy by the author to the donor which includes sketch drawings and comments by the author. He states that his inspiration for this novel was the Quiet Dell murders of Harry Powers and his own youth spent in Marshall and Harrison Counties, WV. Grubb admits to basing the character of Rachel on a person he knew when young who "was more beautiful than my poor powers can portray."
