Piper-Smith Family Genealogy Records

Overview

Genealogies of the William Piper (de Piper) family from 1767 to 1996, and of the Jacob Smith family from 1758 to 1979. Genealogies include brief histories and indexes of family descendants. There are also photocopies and transcriptions of William Piper's legal records: his marriage certificate, a deed, and an appraisal of his estate with a list of items sold after his death. William Piper was born in Scotland in 1767, eventually immigrating to America, where he died in Virginia in 1836.

Overview

Most of the letters are to Alice C. Statler Partiquin of Davis, West Virginia, while others are to her brother Ira Statler and other members of the family. Several letters to Ira concern operation of a coal mine in the area of Cherry Run, Morgan County. Subjects include family marriages, births, and deaths as well as news of the neighborhood.
