Overview

Twenty-four tintypes and six paper photographic prints featuring formal portraits of mostly African Americans. Includes two tintypes and three prints of Caucasian women. All subjects are unidentified except for Mrs. Null and her daughter Hilda on a print dated October 1953. On evidence of the clothing, the tintypes appear to date from the 1880s. This collection was found in Jefferson County, West Virginia.

Scope and Contents This collection includes materials pertaining to Christine Weiss Daugherty and her work with women’s economic development, rural economic development, non-profit management, and international development. The collection contains a compilation of materials related to feminism and donated to the West Virginia and Regional History Center (WVRHC). It includes material from the West Virginia University (WVU) Female Equality Movement (FEM), March for Women's Equality and Women's Lives on 1989 April 09 in Washington, D.C., Marshall University's Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Gender in Appalachia, as well as two oral history intervies of Mildred Fizer and Shefa Nola Benoit.

Typescript of 278 pages regarding Harper Ferry entitled "Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; Contributions Towards a Physical History" authored by James P. Noffsinger of the U.S. National Park Service. Includes historical narrative and an extensive compilation of transcripts of historical documents. There are also 14 facsimiles of maps and 10 photographs.

Special edition newspaper and badge with attached ribbon issued on occasion of the 85th Anniversary of Woman Suffrage. These were handed out at a special event held at Elizabeth Moore Hall on the campus of West Virginia University in 2005. The newspaper contains articles regarding the history of the Woman Suffrage movement; the badge features text stating "Celebrate Victory, Betty Ireland: WV Secretary of State".
