Overview Black and white photographs taken by Julius Monroe, a surveyor who worked to establish the boundary between Maryland and West Virginia as decided by the Supreme Court in Maryland v. West Virginia in 1910. The court ruled in West Virginia's favor, concluding that the Deakins Line was the official and correct demarcation between the states. Monroe and other commissioners were thereafter appointed to locate, establish, and permanently mark the boundaries with monuments. There are 55 photographs...
