Biographical / Historical

The Goodman Manufacturing Company was based in Chicago, and was the leading fabricator of mine locomotive and other mining equipment for both coal and hard rock mining. Goodman was responsible for some of the most important innovations in the mining industry, and basic designs for Goodman locomotives, cutting machines, and drills paved the way for the mechanization of the mines. Most notably, Goodman introduced the first electrical mining locomotive for use in underground mines. The company also introduced personnel and materials carriers to move men and materials inside the mine, and the company manufactured the first electrical coal-cutting machine.
