Overview

The First Presbyterian Church of Clarksburg, West Virginia, was established in 1829. Letters chiefly from church elder Phineas Chapin and Rev. James W. Phillips concern the early operation of the church. Primary topics include finding a pastor for the church and finding financial support for the pastor. Also includes certificates of church membership; letters written by James Davis concerning the church; and a typescript entitled "Fifty Years in the Wilderness" by Loyal Young, 1869.
