Scope and Contents

Papers of Neil S. Bucklew, president of West Virginia University (1986-1995) and professor in WVU’s Department of Management and Industrial Relations. Includes articles, book chapters, reports, and presentations by Bucklew, as well as labor meetings and arbitrations for which he was the facilitator or arbiter. His faculty productivity report for 2014 provides an overview of his extensive contribution to the field of labor relations and his particular focus on labor relations in higher education. There are recognitions and honors highlighting Bucklew’s career included in the collection as well.

In Bucklew's files there are two significant issues for West Virginia University documented including the Wanda Leftridge lawsuit against the University and Bucklew, and the review of the Executive Masters of Business Administration in light of questions regarding Heather Bresch’s degree. Among other Bucklew activities documented are his recognition of John Crites when he was inducted into the West Virginia Business Hall of Fame; creation of the Bucklew Lectureship in higher education administration; advocacy for WVU’s affiliation with the West Virginia Public Theater; creation of the Milan Puskar Leadership Scholars Program; Richard Trumpka’s visit to campus and his honorary degree nomination; and financial matters at Bucklew’s retirement.

The only personal item included is a compact disc with photographs from Bucklew's Morgantown High School fiftieth (1958) reunion in 2008.

In addition to the books containing Bucklew's wrtings there are two books in the collection which Bucklew did not author but which contain inscriptions to him from the authors.

Three plaques and a paperweight also honor Bucklew.
