Records related to Company F of the 12th West Virginia Infantry Unit from 1862 to 1866. Documents include muster rolls from August to December 1863 and April 1864 to February 1865; monthly returns for officers and enlisted men for scattered months in 1863, 1864, and 1865; and several miscellaneous items related to the unit's Civil War service. These include a list of deserters; muster-in rolls; a quarterly return of deceased soldiers; an account of pay and clothing; an invoice of ordinance stores; field returns; and muster-out rolls from early 1865.

The 12th West Virginia Infantry Regiment was organized at Wheeling, West Virginia, in August 1862 and served in the Eastern Theater until the men were mustered out in June 1865. During service three officers and fifty-six enlisted men were killed or mortally wounded and 131 enlisted men died of disease.
