Browning, in a letter to Samuel Shipman, of Marietta, dated Clarksburg, Aug 12, 1845, requests materials for a fair being conducted by the Ladies Sewing Society to liquidate a Presbyterian Church debt. Browning who conducts a school, comments on the unruly character of his charges and the low moral standards of Clarksburg in general.
