Biographical / Historical

The Buddhist prayer flags in this collection originated in Tibet. Professor Schwab traveled and taught in the Tibetan Autonomous Region on several occasions. In the year 2000 he taught Tibetan ophthalmologists in a basic ophthalmology clinical and surgical sciences course in Lahsa, Tibet. The textbook in this collection (in the Tibetan language) was used in part for that course. At the end of his visit the prayer flags were presented to Professor Schwab and his daughter Angela, who had served as a teaching assistant. Didactic and clinical teaching exercises were taught at the Mentsikhang Tibetan Traditional Hospital in Lasha.
