Item No. 24: Letters by Philip Doddridge -- Autograph letter signed to Julianna, dated Washington 19 June 1832. 2pp. "The awful calamity that befell my colleague Mr. Charles I. Johnston. No account has been given of it but the mere fact of his having gone down to Alexandria to Church on Sunday. It is supposed that he intended to come up in the nine o'clock boat but slipped over the wharf. His body was found over the wharf yesterday fornoon [sic]. This is all that will be known ever about the unfortunate affair. …I was beginning to be much attached to him. The funeral will be today.", 19 June 1832
