Plattenburg, Canton, Illinois, 11 March 1866 with orig. mailing envelope. 2pp. "Dear Bro" "…The battle was fought on Uncle's [Wesley Plattenburg of Selma, Alabama] plantation and all they left him was his house & land. Part of the time the Negroes kept him on soldiers' rations and Aunt peddled milk among Yankee soldiers. They are keeping boardinghouse now for a living. Mr. Maples was killed at Yorktown and Phil Means was killed by the soldiers and his house burnt. All of the principal part of Selma was destroyed…", 11 March 1866
