Transcription and abridged version of David H. Strother's diary (1879-1880) while he was acting as General Consul to Mexico. Abridged by Cecil D. Eby, Jr., a biographer of David H. Strother. Strother makes meticulous, descriptive notes of life in Mexico City, his interactions with Mexican and U.S. citizens, Mexican and U.S. politics, and his oversight over the American National Cemetery in Mexico City. Also notable is his lengthy description and commentary on Former President and General Ulysses S. Grant's visit and reception by Mexican President Díaz in 1880.
