Series 1: Microfilm, 1780-1906

Series 1 is microfilm copies of most of the material in the collection, predominantly copies of the paper materials in boxes 1-148. Reels 129-156 are filmed copies of record books, about half of which are books of court proceedings, such as Dockets, Plea Books, Process Books, and Order Books; the other half are public records including tax records and private account books.

Highlights of this series include a “Free Negro register book,” in which people registered themselves as free and recorded information about name, age, appearance, and emancipation (1813-1828, BRO 144) and the First Survey Book made in Yohogania County by William Crawford, (1780-1786, BRO 156).
