Scope and Contents

Kemp researched West Virginia industrial archaeology for a monograph he prepared on the state’s industrial history. This box contains research materials, including facsimile maps and articles, reports, student papers, photographs, correspondence, etc. Subjects include Edison Electric Illuminating Company of Martinsburg, John Laudon McAdams, the Potomac River Hydroelectric Dams and the Weston Bridge and Gauley Bridge Turnpike. Highlights include HAER reports about Potomac River Hydroelectric Dams, Dams #4 and #5, Grafton Machine Shop and Foundry and B&O Railroad structures.
