Scope and Contents

Kemp led an NPS project to study and stabilize the Kaymoor Coal Mine Complex (also sometimes called “Kay Moor Mine”), which is now part of the New River Gorge National River in Fayette County, West Virginia. He collaborated with Paul D. Marshall & Associates, Inc. on the project. The box includes a book, correspondence, newsletters, brochures, budgets, reports, photographic prints, engineering drawings, and contracts. The box also includes facsimiles of the following: articles, correspondence, budget lists, contracts, resumes, clippings, reports, drafts of reports, technical manuals, student papers, and engineering drawings. Subjects include the section of the New River Gorge National River in Fayette County, West Virginia; the Kaymoor Coal Mine Complex in Fayette County, West Virginia; Kaymoor Mine Number One; mine reclamation and stabilization; powder houses; coke houses; preserving industrial sites; and reimbursement of government employees. The following oversize items were moved to Map Cabinet 12, Drawer 13, Folder 4: four sheets of budgets (1986-1988), two clippings (1986), and one brochure (undated).
