Overview

The letters (and their transcripts or photocopies) of 2nd. Lt. Columbus Shrewsbury to his wife in Pt. Pleasant. Shrewsbury served during the Civil War in the Union Army with the West Virginia 4th Infantry, Company A. He participated in the Kanawha Valley and Vicksburg campaigns. The content of the letters contain his favorable impressions of the Union Army and its progress during the war and his concerns about his family's health and financial well being while he is serving in the army. Also includes two letters to other recipients, his resignation, and a 1985 Vicksburg pamphlet.
