Transcription (electronically formatted) of journal kept by Josiah VanKirk Thompson. This 28 volume journal (volume 2 missing) contains extensive genealogical information regarding primarily families of southwestern Pennsylvania (PA). Entries with genealogy information dating from the 1700s to 1900s were recorded into the journal from 1904 through 1928 . Thompson transcribed information from family bibles and other sources into his journal during his travels. Josiah Thompson (1854-1933) was a prominent coal baron and banker in southwestern Pennsylvania (PA). He purchased "Friendship Hill" in 1910 for his country estate.
