Richard D. Rose was born on August 28, 1855 at Grayson County, Virginia. His wife, Rachel C. Hale Rose was born February 14, 1858 at Raleigh County, West Virginia. There were eight children born to this couple. The children included: Lonzo O. (Mercer County, April 11, 1877), Victor H. (Mercer County, July 26, 1879), Shannon S. (Summers County, March 25, 1881), Eddie E. (Summers County, May 14, 1883), Robert L. (Summers County, June 5, 1885), Hattie (Summers County, October 9, 1887), John Sherdon (Summers County, March 13, 1890), and Charles Richard (Summers County, December 22, 1894).
