Two-hundred and nine (209) transcription disc sound recordings of programming for Radio Station WMMN of Fairmont, West Virginia. The discs include: political speeches and campaign advertisements pertaining to West Virginia elections; public service and information programming; and radio dramas and other entertainment such as plays, music, and interviews. Some national personalities appear in the broadcasts, including Fredric March, Don Knotts, Arthur Godfrey, Fred Allen, and Ray Milland. Also includes a history of radio in West Virginia that had been published in 1939 in the periodical "The West Virginia Review", which includes information on WMMN (in small collection folder).
Several productions were recorded in West Virginia radio stations by local talent from West Virginia University and area schools, among others.
The diameters of the discs are of various sizes, including 10 in. and 11 3/4 in.; the bulk of the collection, however, consists of 16 in. discs to be played at 33 1/3 RPM.
Sleeves that had information written onto them, such as titles, recording dates, etc., were photocopied for item numbers 85, 120, 121, 136, 148, 169, 172, 182, 188-199, 200-207, and 208; these photocopies are filed in small collections.
