Scope and Contents

Papers of the Charles William Cramer family of Morgantown. He was born in 1876 in Piedmont, West Virginia; graduated from Law School at West Virginia University in 1897; and admitted to the Mineral County Bar in the same year. After serving in the military from 1897 to 1900, including service in the 6th Cavalry Regiment in the Spainish-American War, he moved to Morgantown in 1901.

There is a photocopy of a 176 page typescript narrative by Cramer regarding his life from 1876 to ca. 1905, with details regarding his student days at West Virginia University (pages 7-17), including information on classes, musical clubs, and baseball; there is also coverage of the Spainish-American war including mobilization, the charge on San Juan Hill, and the yellow fever epidemic (pages 45-77).

There is a photo of Charles Cramer; and photos and other material of his wife Elizabeth Irene Littleton (Cramer), and daughter Kathryn Virginia Cramer (Morgan).

There is also a Military Commission from the State of West Virginia for Charles Cramer (1918, 16 in. x 20 in.), who might have served in World War I, and a Morgantown High School Diploma for Thomas Herbert Morgan (1924, 16 in. x 21 in.).
