This collection contains the records of the West Virginia University Libraries Dean's Office from 1960 to 1998 during the tenure of Deans Dr. Robert F. Munn (served 1957 to 1986) and Dr. Ruth Jackson (served circa 1989-1999). Subjects include library automation, renovations to Colson Hall and the development of subject libraries such as law, health sciences and music. Formats include correspondence, reports, publications and meeting minutes.
The material is organized into five series:
Series 1. Administrative Records, 1960s-1998 (boxes 1-5): General administrative files relating to library statistics, collection development, renovations and purchasing, as well as general day-to-day operations such as interlibrary loan, maintenance, phone service and human resources.
Series 2. Technical Systems, 1980s-1998 (boxes 6-9): Material related to library automation efforts and internal and external facing databases and systems, particularly NOTIS.
Series 3. Committee Meeting Minutes and Reports, 1960s-1998 (box 10): Organizations include the Academic Planning Committee, the Strategic Planning Committee, the Board of Regents, the Board of Trustees and the Colson Hall Library Committee.
Series 4. Dean Munn, Research and Publications, 1960s-1980 (boxes 11-13): Material relating to Dr. Munn's consulting work and research into information services in developing countries, Appalachia and juvenile detention.
Series 5. Miscellaneous (boxes 14 and 15): Highlights include citation cards for publications by naturist John Burroughs, West Virginia University Human Resouces policy binders and Affirmative Action Plans.
The addendum of 2025 September 30 includes records pertaining to strategic and facilities planning, West Virginia University Libraries projects, events, meetings, and other material.

Due to faculty personnel files, box 5 folders titled "Libbey, George, 1992-1993," "Libbey, George, 1993-1994" and "Libbey, George, 1994-1995" will be restricted for 75 years after the date of record creation, but users may complete the Agreement for the Use of Sensitive Materials to request access to these materials prior to the expiration of the restriction.
