Overview

Microfilm copy of the Hotchkiss Map Collection housed at the Library of Congress. Jedediah Hotchkiss (1828-1899) was a Confederate army officer, topographical and mining engineer, and historian. Collection contains more than three hundred cartographic items made by Hotchkiss during the Civil War and the post-war years. Civil War maps include detailed battle maps, sketch books, and some general regional maps, chiefly in Virginia. Post-war maps include information about railroads, mining, and geology, mostly in Virginia and West Virginia.

Jedediah Hotchkiss (1828-1899) was a Confederate army officer, topographical and mining engineer, and historian. He served in Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia from 1862 to 1865.
