Overview

Two items collected by Oscar Doane Lambert, including: 1) a blank check from the Merchants and Mechanics' Bank of Wheeling at Morgantown (ca. 1850-1859) and 2) a postcard depicting the lynching of Joseph Brown of Whitmer, Randolph County. Please note that, as depicted on the postcard, this photograph could be disturbing to some viewers. The postcard includes a manuscript narrative recorded to the back describing the lynching, which involved the shooting of policeman Scott White.
