Scope and Contents

One ledger labeled "copy of freight way bills" for Chesapeake and Ohio Railway depot at Barboursville, West Virginia for period February 1880 to February 1884. Information recorded into the ledger includes where goods are being shipped, from whom and to whom, what the goods are, and the charges. Destinations in West Virginia include Charleston, Guyandotte, Huntington, Milton, and St. Albans, among others; other destinations include Baltimore, Cincinnati, and Richmond, among others. Goods include apple butter, bacon, coffee, eggs, flour, potatoes, and wheat; other goods include carpet, leather, seeds, and varnish, among others. There is a piece of ephemera tipped into the October 1880 pages, an advertising card for "The Phoenix" in Huntington, a shop that sells whiskey, beer, tobacco, and cigars.
