A medal awarded for service in World War I by Wayne County, West Virginia. The medal is circular in shape and bronze or gold in color with a dark blue ribbon. The front face of the medal depicts the bust of a man in Revolutionary War-era military dress. The man depicted may be the Marquis De La Fayette, based on his tricorn hat with a cockade and the association of La Fayette and the United States involvement in WWI. The reverse of the artifact reads "Presented by Wayne Co., W.Va. for service in the World War 1917-8".
