This survey project was led by local historian Dolores Fleming with assistance from students who were members of a semester long historic properties survey class. The class, funded by the state preservation office, was comprised of students majoring in history or landscape architecture. West Virginia University associate professor of history Dr. Barbara Howe assisted in this project by guiding the students in the process of research and gathering information for the NRHP nomination form. Before embarking on the survey Fleming garnered support from groups in the South Park community in order to obtain their cooperation.
