W. Jack Newhouse was born in Grafton, West Virginia. He received a Bachelor’s degree in education from Fairmont State College (now a university), a Master’s degree in History from West Virginia University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education from Ohio University. He began his teaching career at Westover Junior High in Westover, West Virginia and ended his career from education after serving as social studies supervisor, teacher education specialist and director of vocational education for the West Virginia Department of Education. After his full-time retirement, he continued to teach as an adjunct for Potomac State in its History Department and Frostburg State University (Maryland) in its Philosophy Department. He resides in Frostburg, Maryland with his wife, Connie. He continues to research the history of West Virginia as a primary field of study.
