Scope and Contents

This collection comprises research done on former students, football teams, and athletics department accomplishments of Magnolia High School (MHS) in New Martinsville, West Virginia. The research was conducted by Warren Witschey, an MHS graduate. The most common types of materials are as follows:



Boxes labeled "Football Records" include items like team rosters, group photos, season schedules, game scores, win/loss records by year, event programs (some of which include information about the marching band and cheerleading team), and local newspapers and magazines that mention MHS football.



Boxes labeled "Graduating Class Records" contain research done by Witschey into the members of each graduating class by year. These include lists of student names, photocopied yearbook images, class reunion correspondence, obituaries for deceased alumni, and more. Records of varying detail exist for most graduating classes from 1893 to 2021.



Boxes labeled "Athletics Newspaper Stories" include newspapers published in the New Martinsville area that reference the activities of MHS sports teams, including but not limited to football.

Biographical / Historical

Magnolia High School, established in 1879 and still in operation as of 2025, is located in New Martinsville, West Virginia. It is one of the oldest high schools and football programs in the state. Their sports teams are known as the "Blue Eagles," and formerly the "Blue Blizzard." Warren Witschey, the compiler of these materials, is a 1957 graduate of Magnolia and resident of New Martinsville.
