West Virginia Campus Workers (WVCW) is an alliance of West Virginia University employees committed to advancing social and economic justice on the WVU campus and in the university's employment practices. WVCW was established in response to WVU’s proposed “Academic Transformation” in 2023, plans devised by the university administration to eliminate academic programs and faculty positions as a cost-saving measure.

The West Virginia United Students’ Union (WVUSU) was established in the summer of 2023 by a small group of students concerned about the West Virginia University administration’s plans to eliminate academic programs and faculty positions as a cost-saving measure. Their first public facing event, a campus-wide walkout, took place in the fall of 2023 and garnered national attention. As of the 2024-2025 school year, WVUSU remains active in campus affairs.
