Business papers of a Keyser attorney who was judge of the sixteenth judicial circuit, 1904-1920; member of the West Virginia Legislature, 1895-1896 and 1901-1904; and a member of many educational, commercial, and financial boards in Mineral County. Correspondents include John J. Cornwell, H.G. Davis, A.G. Dayton, S.B. Elkins, and Cecil B. Highland.

Overview

Receipts for business of the Hampshire County Court, ca. 1852-1857 collected by Hugh Parrill, Deputy Sheriff. They were stored in a cloth filing system designed and used by Parrill. The receipts, on small slips of paper, document monies collected by the Court for taxes and other transactions involving court cases, land and other property, and the local militia.

Overview

A collection of court records, genealogies, historical sketches and other materials relating to Hampshire and Mineral counties in West Virginia and surrounding areas in Virginia and Maryland. Subjects include a naturalist description of the area and an early history of the region including Indians, white settlement, the French and Indian War and the American Revolution. There is material on the Civil War and World War I and World War II veterans.

Overview

One photograph album of 39 pages containing 40 photographs apparently created by a resident of Keyser, Mineral County, West Virginia, on evidence of the numerous cabinet cards produced by photographers in that city. Although the creator of the album is unknown, many of the pictures have identifications and dates; the subjects of these photos in some cases have been verified as residents of Keyser. These subjects are apparently family and friends of the album's creator.

There are frequent, specific references to the political and military state-of-affairs in the upper Ohio Valley region.
