Sweet Springs Hotel Records

Overview

Business records of the Sweet Springs Hotel of Sweet Springs, Monroe County, including journals, departure books, inventories and miscellaneous volumes. In 1792 William Lewis built the town and hotel as a health resort; in 1830-33, and again in 1857, additional buildings were added.

Scope and Contents Daybook or ledger, likely from a general store located at Section 101 of the route along the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, Valley River, Taylor County, (West) Virginia. Names of potential owners/creators of the daybook are Simeon J. Snider, John Snider, and someone named Rogers. The store sold everything from coffee and cigars to buttons and nails.
