Scope and Contents

These papers contain some correspondence of General John R. Kenly concerning his Civil War career and his book on the War with Mexico and includes a copy of a letter from General Burnside. There are also two newspaper articles, one on the Baltimore fire of 1904 and the other on the USS Constitution.

Overview The collection includes letters from George Smith Patton, Sr. (June 26, 1833 - September 25, 1864), who was the grandfather of WWII hero George S. Patton, Jr., and served as a Confederate Colonel during the Civil War. There are letters Patton wrote to his wife, Susan Thornton Glassell Patton (1835-1883), during their courtship and during his military service.
