The collection contains letters written during the Civil War and reflect the experiences of Mortimer Gamble, Henry R. Gamble, Carr Gamble, Hamilton Gamble and Mary L. (Pratt) Gamble. This collection contains: plat of Phillips Land, Morgan County, WV (no date); survey of land owned by Alexander Stephen, Berkeley County, Virginia (1833); deed of land from the Davis heirs of Robert Stephen, Berkeley County, Virginia, December 15, 1803; plats of two surveys (both drawn on one sheet) of land deeded to Robert Stephen, September 23, 1831.

West Virginia land records, including receipts for fees paid, surveys, certificates of survey, land patents, grants, correspondence and other material. Some of the records are copies rather than official documents. The records are sorted by the names of buyers and stored in envelopes. Recorded to the fronts of the envelopes is information relevant to their contents.
