Overview

This bound notebook includes notes taken by Wheeling resident Archibald W. Paull during lectures at Washington College, Washington, Pennsylvania. Paull attended the college from 1861 to 1865 after graduating from Wheeling's Linsly Institute. He became president of Nail City Stamping Co. and engaged in the manufacture of glass products. He was the son of Ohio County judge and West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals justice James W. Paull.

An unpublished history of the Hazel-Atlas Glass Company compiled by J.S. Algeo, completed in 1956. In 1885 this firm originated in Wellsburg, West Virginia, as the Hazel Glass Company and established, later, plants at Clarksburg, Grafton, Wheeling, and Washington, Pennsylvania.

Overview Thaddeus Clark Noble (b. 1818) of Washington County, Pennsylvania, operated a general store in Claysville, Pennsylvania, from 1849 to the mid-1870s. Approximately 290 letters written in the late 1850s document the operations of Noble's store in western Pennsylvania and his relationship with frequent customers and wholesale dealers.
