Scope and Contents
There are assorted newspapers and news clippings from Hardy County and the surrounding region (Boxes 10-11). It includes the local paper, the Weekly Examiner, in Moorefield, Hardy County. It contains agricultural newspapers like Indiana’s Agricultural Epitomist and Ohio’s Farm and Fireside. Other newspapers are from the east coast, Midwest, and the upper South, including cities like Chicago, Kansas City, Cincinnati, and Nashville. Other states include Maine, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and others. There are also some West Virginia papers like The Grant County Press (Petersburg). There are also papers from prominent national organizations like The Washington Post and New-York Tribune. The series also contains advertising catalogues and pamphlets for agricultural products, clothing, carriages, and other household items, among other various industries. Other catalogues advertise medicines and cures for various diseases, and a few religious pamphlets are also included (Box 9, Folder 3, and Box 12). These newspapers and pamphlets were likely saved by George B. Hulver and his father, Hayden Hulver, and the organization of the newspapers mostly reflects the original order in which they came.
