Series 1. Materials relating to Brooks's research on African American experiences in high school and college sports

Series 1 includes research materials compiled by Dean Brooks regarding athletics at West Virginia’s Black high schools and colleges and West Virginia’s Black cultural history broadly. Some of these research materials relate to CPASS programs, like the 2004 Brown v. Board commemorative “Family Reunion” event, where research was conducted by Brooks. Also included are materials relating to Brooks’s work as a board member of the West Virginia All Black Schools Sports and Academic (ABSSA) Hall of Fame. The kinds of materials most common in this series are handwritten research notes, photocopies of relevant history or sociology articles, photographs, newspaper clippings, printouts of demographic statistics, and commemorative event programs or other publications from relevant WV schools.
