Index Card Notes: To the General Assembly of Virginia. The petition of a number of inhabitants of the counties of Berkeley, and Hampshire, humbly sheweth, that the time is approaching when the government of the United States will move to the River Potomac, at the proper place for permeant [sic] residence... your petitioners believe, that the road they contemplate, will secure to the people of Hampshire, Berkeley, Louden and Fairfax Counties, a very great part of the advantages which may be derived from a thorofare [sic] of the western part of the United States to the seat of government, and that an act appointing commissioners, to view, mark and lay out a road from Old Town in Maryland, by the routs [sic] of Bath and Martinsburg, to Harper's or Key's Ferry in Berkeley County, as they may find proper; and authorizing the counties interested, to levy a sum of money not exceeding $2000 in the whole, to be applied by such commissioners to opening the same... etc..
