The petition of the subscribers inhabitants of the counties of Monongalia, Ohio, Harrison, Randolph and Wood, and of others claiming lands within the said counties respectfully sheweth, that a company, under purchase made or pretended to have been made from the Indian natives, or pretending to, ... lay claim to a great proportion of the lands included in the said counties of Monongalia, Ohio, Randolph and Wood, and to all the lands included in the said county of Harrison... and [we] consider the Commonwealth as solemnly pledged to maintain and defend the titles to be acquired under its laws again claims of said company.
