The inhabitants of the county of Kanawha beg leave... to respectfully pray that laws may passed and funds provided for the construction of James River Canal from Pleasants Island to the mouth of Dunlap's Creek for the further extension of navigation by uniting the Eastern and Western waters at or near the summit of the Alleghany, by continuing a canal across or thro' that Mt. and down the valise of Howard's Creek, Greenbrier and New River to the Great Falls of the Great Kanawha...etc.
