Index Card Notes: To the general assembly of Virginia. The undersigned citizens of Monongalia County humbly represent to your honorable body that a few years ago the principal engineer of the state surveyed and reported on a route for a road from the mouth of Fishing Creek... by Morgantown and Brandonville to Smithfield on the Greak Cumberland Road leading from Cumberland to Wheeling... Your petitioners represent that the inhabitants along s said route are unable to take a sufficient quantity of stock to entitle them to the advantages and benefits of the fund for internal improvements... your petitioners pray that an act will pass appropriating from the treasury the sum of $50,000 for the construction of a road on said route, upon such plan and in such manner as in your wisdom shall seem just and right.
