Index Card Notes: To the speaker of the house of delegates of Virginia. The petition of the undersigned, citizens of Sundry Counties on the south side of James River, respectfully represent: the general assembly of the 20th January, 1802, passed an act incorporating a Co. to construct a turnpike along said road (Buckingham to Manchester) allowing the company such tolls as were considered reasonable... at the last session of assembly, on petition of the Co., their tolls were increased to twice the amount allowed by their charter... we pray the general assembly to repeal the act of last March 8th whereby the Manchester Turnpike Co. are authorized to demand double the tolls allowed by their charter of incorporation.
