Index Card Notes: A petition, to the honorable, the general assembly of Virginia: The undersigned, citizens of Berkeley County, beg leave to present to the view and attention of your hon. body, a series of grievances, which they have heretofore long borne -- under the influence of strong persuasion, that you will take their case into consideration... the formidable Mts. and streams that must be traveled to get to the county seat and voting places... they respectfully beg leave to name the mill of Thomas Robinson, West of Back Creek, for one precinct: the tavern in Gerrardstown, occupied by Capt. James Cox, for another: and the tavern on the East Side of Back Creek, belonging to the heirs of Robert Snodgrass, for the third... it is therefore hoped, your honorable body will grant to the citizens of said village and its neighborhood, a separate election district also...etc.
