Index Card Notes: To the honorable legislature of the State of Virginia: the petition of sundry citizens of the counties of Preston, Randolph, Barbour, Harrison Lewis, Gilmer and Upshur, and others interested therin, praying the passage of an act authorizing the extension of the Clarksburg and Phillippi turnpike road, by the construction of an unpaved turnpike road of 16 FT. width on the face, and 30 FT. cleared, from Phillippi, by way of Glady Creek Cross-Roads, in Barbour, to the leading creek and Buffalo turnpike road, at the mouth of Indian Fork of Clover Creek in R Randolph County, Crossing Cheat River by way of Horse-Shoe run, and intersecting the Northwestern turnpike road, between the residence of David Stemple, and the Maryland State Line, at Yough Bridges in Preston Co....This is the nearest central route by which the drover may transport his stock from NW Va., but also from Eastern Kentucky, and from much of Ohio without encountering the cars on the B&O Railroad crossings of Tygart's Valley River, and Three Fork in Taylor Co.
