To the honorable, the legislature of Virginia: we the undersigned petitioners, citizens of Marshall county, state of Va, being deeply impressed with the great and growing evils of intemperance in this county and also of the inefficiency of the existing laws to regulate or suppress this traffic--we petition your honorable body to enact a law prohibiting the manufacture and sale of ardent spirits as a beverage, similar to and not less stringent than the Maine Liquor Laws.
