Item 09-168: From Edward M. Norton, et al, Clarksburg, to Pierpont, Wheeling. "Gov Pierpont, Wheeling Va. Aug 31 Late 1861. By Telegraph from Clarksburg 1861. D[ea]r Sir etc. have undoubted information by scouts & by telegraph from Genl Kelley that there are four hundred 400 rebels at Worthington. Genl Rosecrans left here today leaving only parts of three 3 companies here arouse your people send up two 2 companies at once to Fairmont and march on Worthington & Shinnston send all the force you can to this point I shall immediately march a company from here to anticipate to your movement from Wheeling. Genl Kelley came over" on reverse: "afford no support let me hear from you immediately. A Large amount of Government property is here to be protected EM Norton DT Hewes Thos. L.
