These are treason files of the "United States District Court for the Western Judicial District of Virginia". These legal documents include names, dates, locations, and sources of evidence, and were intended to direct an officer of the court to arrest a named person. Notable personalities identified in the records include Peregrine Hays of Gilmer County (folder 1); and John Pegram (folder 1), whose younger brother William served as a Confederate artillery officer during the war, seeing battle at Gettysburg, among numerous other engagements. These records were found filed with Harrison County Court records, A&M 1827.
