The collection contains correspondence, newspaper clippings, shipping records, tonnage reports, records of grades of coal produced, and lists of the officials employed at various company mines. There are issues of the New River Employees Magazine and Spotlight. Also included are Annual Reports, 1911-1942, and two picture guidebooks for company mines. Physical materials include a miner's petition asking for a work pay scale from the Prudence Coal Company and the February and March 1942 issues of Spotlight. The New River Coal Company was later known as the White Oak Coal Company.
