This collection consists of one scrapbook, compiled by Dan B. Fleming, of St. Mary's, WV, between the years of 1945 and 1960. It contains a variety of information concerning the Ohio River. Subjects covered include: flood records, flood control projects, history of the river, Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Compact of 1948, navigation, snow and ice records, the proposed Lake Erie and Ohio River Canal (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers), and the Ohio River Valley Improvement Association, Inc. The material collected is in the form of diagrams, charts, maps, reports, correspondence, and clippings, much of which was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The original purpose for compiling this information, especially the flood records, was apparently for use in planning an American Cyanamid plant at Willow Island, WV. Fleming seems to have been an employee of the American Cyanamid Company, Calco Chemical Division, at the time. He had been a West Virginia State Senator from 1933 to 1943.
