Overview Notebooks of Lillian Mayfield Wright, Appalachian writer and poet from Tyler Co., WV. One of the notebooks is a typed manuscript of No Wind Blowing/The Old Stone House. And the other two are a scrapbook of clippings of her published poems and a loose-leaf notebook of typed poems and short stories. Daughter of J. Grant and Florence Carter Mayfield, she was a noted West Virginia writer of the inter-war era who also published under the surname of her first husband as Lillian Mayfield Roberts....

Two letters from Linah Arnett, in Baltimore, to his wife and family; two photocopies of letters to Linah Arnett from F.S. Morgan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Linah describes a shopping trip to Baltimore, and Morgan's letters to Linah concern the circumstances and professions of mutual friends who have moved west.

Two letters authored by Corporal John Service (Company A, 18th Connecticut) from Martinsburg describing eloquently and in some detail how citizens and soldiers celebrated the end of the Civil War, and mourned over the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.
